Dear Colleagues

>Basil A. Pruitt, Jr.

The 6th Congress of the International Federation of Shock Societies will be convened in Cologne, Germany on June 28, 2008. The scientific sessions over the succeeding four days will cover virtually all aspects of trauma, shock, and sepsis from the beside to the bench and back. Special attention will be given to mathematical modeling, the response to injury and resuscitation, neurotrauma (both primary and secondary), monitoring techniques, genomic and proteomic assessment of sepsis and injury, and new technologies for research and clinical care. The Congress will be climaxed by presentations on treatment priorities, new therapies, clinical registries, and projections about future care in the ICU.

In recognition of the importance of the Congress, the Shock Society meeting will be totally incorporated into the Cologne Program and no meeting will be held in the U.S. in 2008. I urge all members of the Shock Society to participate in the Congress. More importantly, I ask that you submit an abstract in order to present your latest and best work at the 6th Congress, which will provide a prestigious platform for your work and facilitate world class discussion of your studies by international leaders in the field of shock.

I look forward to seeing you in Cologne and a fruitful exchange of information throughout the Congress. In the world of shock, Cologne is where it's at in 2008.
